Tree For Life Initiative: Wassa East DCE Leads Tree Planting In District--To Promote Afforestation And Environmental Protection

The District Chief Executive (DCE) of Wassa East DistrictAssembly, Mr.Alhassan Ibrahim, has led a team on Thursday June 5, 2025 to plant more trees in the district as part of Assembly's efforts to promote as well as actively participate in the government's Tree For Life Reforestation Initiative 2025 to promote afforestation and environmental protection.

The initiative which is being championed by the Ghana Forestry Commission, Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and Ghana Education Service under the Ministry of Education started on Thursday June 5, 2025 and it would end on June 30, 2025.

The national tree planting exercise dubbed; "Tree For Life Initiative–Planting for a Sustainable Future," targeted planting of 30 million tree seedlings across the country and the DCE in the Wassa East District is commited to ensure the Assembly plant more trees in the district to create awareness.

The DCE, together with Daboase community members and Senior High School students in the area had joined forces to plant more trees in the district in the beginning of the programme.

Mr Ibrahim noted that the Tree For Life Initiative is very important programme for Ghana as a nation, emphasizing the need to reduce global warming through forestation and the involvement of the youth.

According to him, the depletion of the forest cover would create problems for the people, saying, “I have dedicated my time to make sure that the environment looks green.”

He, therefore, sternly cautioned residents in the district and Ghana in general to desist from the rampant felling of trees since that weird behaviour would create problems for the country.

Mr lbrahim disclosed this when Ministry of Lamds and Natural Resources through Ghana Forestry Commission, embarked on a tree planting exercise at Wassa East District on Thursday June 5, 2025.

He added the current National Democratic Congress (NDC) government led by President John Dramani Mahama, is committed to protecting the environment to improve the lives of Ghanaians.

“Planting trees to beautify the environment would reduce air pollution and prevent natural disasters, among others.”

He asserted stated that his outfit decided to embark on the tree planting exercise to support efforts to tackle climate change which has negative impact on the world.

"Today, I am proud to stand alongside you in this noble act of planting trees as part of the Tree for life  initiative. As District Chief Executive, I firmly believe that environmental stewardship is not just a duty but a shared responsibility that defines the future we wish to build.

"By actively participating in this effort, we are taking decisive steps toward a greener, healthier, and more sustainable Wassa East. Each seed planted today is a testament to our collective commitment,an emblem of hope and resilience," the DCE stated.

He urge every student and community member to nurture these trees and embrace the significance of conservation, indicating the government's commitment to continue to invest big into the county's Forestry sector.

According to the DCE, the impact of this initiative will stretch far beyond today, ensuring cleaner air, richer biodiversity, and a lasting legacy for generations to come.

"Let’s continue to work together, support one another, and take bold steps toward a brighter future. Wassa East is leading the way, and I am honored to be part of this journey with you," he advised.
