Trade to solve Ghana’s unemployment problem – Bono & Ahafo Regional PRO of ASSI tells Government.

As the Government of Ghana continues to ponder over absorbing the about 70,000 Trainees who have passed out of the Nation Builders Corps (NABCo) program into an already choked Public Sector vis-à-vis the teeming unemployed graduates the Nation produces annually, Artisanship or Trades have been proposed as a solution to this menace.

Mr. Osman Ibrahim, Chief Executive Officer of Asomah Leather Works in Techiman and the Public Relations Officer (PRO) for Association of Small Scale Industries (ASSI) in Bono, Bono East, and Ahafo Regions believes that if Graduates could put aside their pride & ego for white color jobs and get trained in leather works, fashion, technical or any of the Artisanship/Trades then the problem of unemployment confronting Mother Ghana would reduce drastically.

Mr. Osman Ibrahim gave this proposal
in Techiman when seventeen (17) Persons Living with Disabilities (PwDs) drawn from three (3) regions across Ghana were graduating after receiving a one-month free training in leather works under a program dubbed “Ghana Employment and Social Protection”.

Mr. Philip Ankomah, a Consultant for the “Ghana Employment and Social Protection” program in an interview with Asta Fm's Nana Kwadwo Adu in Techiman disclosed that a total of over 300 PwDs are expected to receive free training in Phase 1 of the project and will be provided with Startup kits/tools to set up their businesses.

Finally, some Persons with Disabilities who received the free one-month training in leather work shared their experiences.
