Timber truck kills driver, mate in critical condition

 A timber truck's driver is supposedly dead while his mate is in critical condition after the truck failed its brake on Odweanoma Mountain, on the Abene-Abetifi stretch in the Kwahu East District of the Eastern region.

The accident occurred today, Wednesday morning at about 8 am.

The driver’s mate who spoke with SN24 News said, the truck with registration number GR 5812-19 was lugging three big logs of timber, they started experiencing low cylinder compression after climbing about 200 meters off the hill. The engine of the truck however failed so the driver applied brake where it also proved futile.

Suddenly, one of the timber violently surged forward from the moving truck and crushed off the head of the truck before falling off the truck.

His master (driver) was crushed to death on the spot by one of the logs which violently fell on him, but he (mate) was trapped in the head of the truck.

It took hours before he was extricated with the help of the locals, police, and ambulance service personnel who went to the scene. He was then rushed to Atibie Government Hospital for treatment.

However, his master’s body has been deposited at the morgue.
