Thousands of retired civil servants have threatened to storm the Ministry of Finance in the coming days to demand for the exemption of their funds from Government Debt Exchange Programme.
The 3-hour convergence at the Ministry of Finance, according to the Bondholder forum will be aimed at seeking the audience of the Finance Minister, Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta to iron out issues pertaining to their request for the government to exclude their funds from the Domestic Debt Restructuring Programme.
At a press conference today, January 16,2023 in Accra, the bondholders forum made the disclosure that if there demand to meet with the Finance Minister was not honoured then they will embarked on a protest at the finance ministry.
Government, Soireenews.com learnt has extended the deadline for bondholders to 31st January to enable consensus building between the bondholders and the government.
But the bondholders said they seeking audience with the Finance Minister to fashion out measures as they do not subscribe to the government's directives on putting their money into a 15 year bond.
Addressing the press conference, the Convenor of the Forum, Dr. Adu Anane Antwi explained that his outfit's decision to mass-up at Finance Minister's office was arrived at following the government's to rescind on its decision to exempt Pensioners Bondholders from the Domestic Debt Exchange Programme.
The intended mass-up, he noted will come up next week Monday,January 23,2023.
Though he sadly indicated that most of their members were on life support, others are also on dialysis at the same time a number of them are also on medication.
The situation, he noted was dire therefore the earlier the Office of the National Chief Imam, the Speaker of Parliament, the National House of Chiefs and the Christian Council which had been petitioned.
Dr. Adu A.Antwi, FCA, Esq said the above listed organizations move to intervene will save a number of the aged.
