Curtis Jones dedicated his goal against Sheffield United in honour of Alisson Becker’s late father.

The Liverpool goalkeeper lost his dad after he was drowned in a lake near his holiday home in Brazil last Wednesday.

Reuters per the report of a Police inspector revealed that the 57-year old Jose Becker had been swimming in a dam on his property when the accident happened.

Alisson Becker was not in the Reds line up to face the Blades on Sunday evening giving room for Adrian to take the post after 22-year-old Kelleher was reported to be battling a minor injury - Jakub Ojrzynski was named in the squad.

Jones and Kean Brown’s own goal ended Jurgen Klopp’s side losing run as they moved to within two points of the top four place.

The Reds midfielder after the game dedicated the goal to Alisson Becker’s late dad as a farewell message to the former goalkeeper.

“It's been a difficult time for me and the rest of the team,” said Jones. “This goal is for Ali's dad, may he rest in peace. If Ali sees this, this is for you.

“He's a strong lad, a big player for the team. He's not here today but we miss him for sure and I'd like to take this time to dedicate my goal to him, his dad and the rest of his family.”
