Former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, has said there is nothing like police brutality in Nigeria.

According to him, what is referred to as police brutality is a situation where youths are brutalizing youths because the policeman accused of brutality is also a young person and his actions are borne out of frustration.

Okorocha was speaking at a world press conference where he declared his ambition to run for president in 2023, on Monday, January 31, 2022.

He said, “Someone asked me, ‘What will you do about #EndSARS, about policy brutality?” I said to him, there is nothing like police brutality; what we have are youths brutalizing youths out of frustration.

"The policeman that brutalized his brother on the street did so not because he’s a policeman; he did so because he’s a young man frustrated.”

He said under his government, the youths would be the bedrock of the country’s economy, adding that he would ensure that they were self-employed.

Nigerian youths in October 2020 protested over police brutality in Nigeria.

The protest tagged EndSARS shut down Nigeria for weeks as youths called for the reform of the Nigeria Police Force, NPF.
