The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) has admonished Journalists not to sacrifice their lives for stories.

GJA has also cautioned the press to be mindful of their lives and safety whilst discharging their duties.

"It is better to live to tell a story than you being the story to be told", the association stressed.

The National Vice President of the Association, Linda Asante Agyei speaking on Ark in the morning show hosted by Kwabena Obeng Akrofi on the celebration of International Day to end Impunity of Crimes against Journalists expressed worry about the rate at which Journalists clash with security personnel in their line of duty.

"I don't see why a Journalist should clash with the security agencies in the discharge of their legitimate duties.

"I am not saying Journalists are above the law however, no security personnel should take the laws into their hands and manhandle Journalists”, She said.

The GJA Vice President bemoaned the slow pace of investigations concerning cases of assault on Journalists.

"As of now, we haven't seen any positive response with regards to ongoing investigations. We pray and hope the IGP will resurrect all dead cases of assault on Journalists.

“We want the investigation and prosecution speeded up to serve as a deterrent to others.

"Sometimes we should own responsibility for our misconduct, you should remember that as a Journalist your freedom ends at where another person's responsibility begins”, she added.
