Teenage Pregnancy is on the rise at Njau a suburb of Nsawkaw-Cheif Calls On Parents for Change.

The Chief of Njau, a suburb of Nsawkaw in the Tain District of the Bono Region, Nana Anokone Sarpong Kumankoma, has bitterly expressed his worry over an alarming spate of teenage pregnancy menacing his town.

Nana Anyone who is also the Kyidomhene of Nsawkaw Traditional Council blamed the phenomenon on parents and the lack of discipline among the youth.

In a media encounter, the chief blamed the rudiment of the menace on the parents in the community, saying the girl's in the area are given out to men at their tender age for the sake of their 'daily bread' due to their poor state of the living conditions.

He added that “at a larger degree, I will blame the parents over their gross neglect of their girl child because when the girls are at the Junior High School or after the completion, the parents refuse to take proper care of their girls hence the rise in teenage pregnancy in the community".

"The early sexual exploitation amongst the girls has also prevented them to continue their education after the Junior High School to the Senior High School, the problem has been as a result of indiscriminate teenage pregnancy, he said.

He, therefore, advised the parents to take care of their wards and ensure that they properly well care to seek the well-being of their girl's future and also advised the girls to also concentrate on their education than involve themselves in teenage pregnancy “.

According to Nana Sarpong, on his record, nearly 30 teenage pregnancy cases have been recorded every year with a  population of fewer than 1000 people in the community.

He alleges that "one of the problems causing the increase in teenage pregnancy is that, the boys in the town are into competition among themselves and have gone for herbal concoctions popularly called (for girls) to compete among themselves over who can be the first person to have more virgins to break which to him has been the major cause of the situation in the town".
