Teachers In Tamale Declare Strike Over Brutal Attack On Headmaster

Teachers under the Ghana Education Service in the Tamale Metropolis have today Monday declared a sit-down strike over the recent beatings of an innocent Headmaster by some perpetrators.

The Headteacher for the Nyohini Presby JHS Block-B in the Metropolis, Mr. Lawrence Yiripare together with two other teaching staff were beaten to a pulp by macho men, believed to be residents of Nyohini, a suburb of Tamale.

The headmaster of Suadikiya Islamic School and Spokesperson for Conferences of Heads of Basic Schools in the Nyohini Circuit, Mr. Ampomah K. Bismark revealed that his colleague went through hell during the attack.

"On the 20th January 2021, a meeting of heads was convened at the Nyohini Presby JHS Block-'B' by the Circuit Supervisor on Administration issues of the circuit. Right after the meeting some group of six(6) macho men besieged the school premises and attacked a number of headteachers and the circuit supervisor without any apparent reasons".

The Suadikiya Islamic School headmaster lamented that some suspected teachers may have instigated his colleague's attack.

He said the suspects never bothered to come to the rescue of the headmaster during the attack.

According to him schools in the circuit have resolved to boycott teaching and learning in the Metropolis until their security is assured.

"We are serving a notice that all teacher's within the circuit are boycotting school from tomorrow Friday the 29th January 2021 until the issues are fully resolved. We are therefore counting on your usual cooperation".

He further called on the law enforcement body and their superiors to deal with the perpetrators decisively.

"I am officially informing you about our displeasure and therefore expecting that the perpetrators be dealt with according to the law". He added.

Cause of the headmaster's assault

Soireenews.com has gathered that the angry youth were incited by some of the teachers of the Nyohini Presby Junior High School Block 'B', following their refusal to accept the transfer

The suspected teachers according to sources, hired the youth to assault the victim because they believe he is behind their transfers related issues.

The said teacher's in the Nyohini Presby Primary including other school teachers in the Metropolis for almost ten years now have opposed reposting by Ghana Education Service.
