Taxes collected must be used for their intended purposes to enhance development-Honourable Appiah Joseph
A communication team member of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Tano South Constituency of the Ahafo Region who doubles as the Assembly Member for the Atɛkyɛm Electoral Area, Honourable Appiah Joseph has implored the government to ensure a good usage of taxes being collected from citizens to facilitate the development of the country this according to him will compel taxpayers to pay more taxes.
Speaking in a discussion on the High Radio Breakfast show on the wake of the passage of the three new tax bills by parliament last week, the Assembly member echoed that the development of every nation largely depends on taxation hence the need for Ghanaians to accept and pay the new tax bills passed by parliament.
He added that the citizenry expects to make the witness of series of development as far as the payment of taxes is concerned and so the government of the day must ensure all taxes paid are channeled to the development of the country.
He pointed out that people may complain about the payment of taxes when the growth of the country become standstill with all the human and capital resources in addition to the taxes being levied on the citizenry.
On his part, a national communication team Member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chief Mmorndoe Osman lamented what he described as deceptive and misleading governance by the Nana Addo Led NPP government.
He explained that Akuffo Addo and the NPP government during their 2016 campaign lied to Ghanaians on their intention to reduce what they described as tax burden imposed on Ghanaians by the then president John Mahama and his NDC government and make sure the country moves from taxation to production but Ghanaians are witnessing vice versa after giving the Mandate to Akufo Addo with numerous taxes being levied against the citizenry.
He said the NPP government with the numerous taxes imposed on Ghanaians has done nothing beneficial and developmental to the country and so it is about time the NPP desist from lies and deceptions and be realistic to Ghanaians on their inability to rule the country as promised during their days in opposition.
