Tanzania warns foreign envoys over 'alarming' alerts

The foreign minister of Tanzania met with the leaders of diplomatic missions and international organizations on Monday in the capital city of Dodoma to caution them against making "alarming statements" about the security of the nation.

It happened after the US embassy issued a warning about a potential terror assault in Dar es Salaam, the capital of Tanzania, on January 25.

Stergomena Tax, the country's foreign minister, requested that foreign ambassadors "observe diplomatic contact channels as defined by the Vienna Convention... to prevent causing undue tension within and without the country."

Tanzania, according to her, "will continue to be a peaceful, safe, and stable country that gives proper attention to concerns of security locally, regionally, and internationally."

Two days after the US issued a warning that Westerners' favorite spots in Dar es Salaam "remain to be attractive targets for terrorists seeking to conduct attacks," the Dutch airline KLM informed its passengers that probable delays to Tanzania flights due to "civil unrest" might occur.
