Supreme Court grants Mahama’s motion to amend ‘error’ in Election Petition
John Mahama

The Supreme Court has granted a motion by the NDC flagbearer for the 2020 election, John Dramani to amend an 'error' in his election petition which is challenging the declaration of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

In the amendment, former President Mahama wants to change an ‘inadvertent’ mistake in one of his reliefs in which he referreed to the EC instead of President Akufo-Addo.

As carried in an article by Graphic.com, the lawyers for President Akufo-Addo and the EC opposed the motion for amendment,  but a seven-member panel of the apex court, presided over by the Chief Justice, Justice Kwasi Anin Yeboah, held that the amendment does not affect the substance of the petition, and therefore was granted.

Apart from the Chief Justice, other members on the panel were Justices Yaw Appau, Samuel K. Marful Sau, Nene Amegatcher, Professor Ashie Kotey, Mariama Owusu and Getrude Torkornoo.

The hearing of the petition will continue on January 19, 2020 for the pre-trial.
