Support Red Cross efforts-Health workers urged

National president of the Ghana Red Cross Society, Mr. Kwame Gyimah Akwafo has urged health workers across Ghana to support the its efforts with their hearts.

He made the call recently at the ‘World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day’ celebration marked every 8th May in every year.

Themed “Everything we do comes from the heart”, Mr. Gyimah entreates health workers to be committed to what they have been trained for.

The World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is a global event that marks the uniqueness and unity of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent movement.

The yearly celebration is dedicated to staff and volunteers of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement reaching and supporting people affected by natural hazards,poverty and social exclusion,and numerous humanitarian crises confronted with across the world.

Also, it is dedicated to alleviating human suffering, upholding human dignity, protecting lives,and preventing emergencies and natural disasters such as flood, epidemics,and earthquakes through education.

He stated that, the World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day is celebrated to honor the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement founder ‘Henry Dunant’,who was born on this same day in 1828.

Mr Akwafo used the occasion to applaud all workers of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement across the globe and entreated them to work harder to continue to support lives.

“We also appreciate all our partners who have been supporting the motive of the Movement such as The Ministry of Health and Ghana Health Service,Nestle Ghana,Coca Cola Foundation,Ecobank,Iran Clinic,and the Media fraternity for their wonderful work”.

At the end, he appealed on the government of Ghana and other stakeholders to support the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to motivate the workers in any way they can to make their work easier.
