Sunyani: Open defecation on the rise at Yawhima, chief blames situation on locked MP’s toilet

Open defecation is on the rise at Yawhima, a suburb of Sunyani, the Bono Regional capital as the chief of the area, Nana Ansu Ababio is blaming the situation of the failure to open an ultra-modern facility constructed by the MP for the area.
According to the aggrieved Chief, the residents are still engaged in open defecation while a new toilet facility is sitting there waiting to be commissioned by the Member of Parliament Hon Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh and party Executives in the constituency.
A situation the chief describes as worrying is threatening the health of the people in the area and surrounding areas as well.
Nana Ansu Ababio and his people are therefore calling on the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area, Hon. Kwasi Ameyaw Kyeremeh officially commission the completed ultra-modern toilet facility in the area for use.
“Our humble appeal to the MP and the Municipal Assembly is that they should come and open the toilet facility for us to use it.
According to him, the project was funded by the MP from his common fund, and that they are aware but what they do not understand is the delay in commissioning the facility for the people for which it was constructed to use.
“We know the MP funded the project from the MP’s Common Fund because of us so we do not understand why we have to attend nature call in bushes while the place is ready for use”, Nana Ansu Ababio questioned.
The newly constructed ultra-modern KVIP facility was funded by the Member of Parliament for the area Kwasi Ameyaw Cheremeh to help ease the pressure on residents whenever they need to attend nature’s call due to the lack of a toilet facility in the area.
But has since been locked up after completion hence the call from the chief and community folks for its commissioning to enable it to serve its purpose.
The traditional ruler also bemoaned the poor nature of the News Dormaa which is still under construction whiles calling on the contractor working on the project to speed up his work.
“We know the Kotokrom-Yawhima- New Dormaa road is under construction but we are also appealing to the contractor not to break for any reason. The road is too dusty and watering is what we are looking for”, Nana Ansu Ababio

told Soiree News.
The controversial Sunyani New Dormaa road was awarded to contract during the erstwhile Mahama NDC administration but was abandoned after elections due to a change of government with claims that the contract needs to be queried.
But was later re-awarded after a series of demonstrations by community folks which led to a clash of the demonstrators and the police in the region.
President Nana Addo Danquah Akuffo Addo in October 2020, before the elections, visited the site and assured the residents of its completion even before the elections but to date, the road remains uncompleted.
