Total drama and confusion erupted on Thursday, September 30, 2021, during the confirmation of the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) nominee, Margaret Darko Darkwa in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Armed Police Officers were allegedly deployed from the Eastern Regional Police headquarters, and Suhum District Police Command to take over the Assembly Hall where the MMDCE election was being conducted, preventing all Journalists from entering to cover the exercise.

The Suhum Police Commander, Superintendent Mohammed Cantona opined that "I was instructed by the Municipal Coordinating Director and the Information Services Officer, Ms Ivy, not to allow the media entry."

The Police commander said the assembly members and few dignitaries were the only accredited persons.

The situation attracted scores of the NPP members in Suhum Constituency to the assembly ground to agitate.

They expressed their disgust, "over conspiracy to manipulate the process in favour of the MCE nominee", Margaret Darko Darkwah.

Indeed, the MCE nominee was reportedly confirmed after polling all 42 Yes votes representing 100%.

The media subsequently snubbed the Municipal Information Officer who invited them to cover closing remarks by various speakers after the declaration.

The renomination of the Suhum MCE Margaret Darko Darkwa was fraughted with controversies due to a feud between her, the Constituency Executives of her Party, NPP, and the Member of Parliament for the area.

The enmity has led to several clashes between supporters of the feuding factions in the constituency and the municipality as a whole.

One of such incidents was August 28, 2021, bloody clashes at a funeral between supporters of the MP and Frank Asiedu Bekoe alias Protozoa who is alleged to be from the camp of the MCE being groomed to oust the MP in the next primaries.

Many of the Assembly Members had earlier vowed to vote against the nominee whom they accused of being incompetent and very divisive.
