‘Stress can cause infertility; health promotion officer advises women

 Women have been advised to stay away from things that can trigger stress as it can cause infertility.

The Health Promotion officer with the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in the Sunyani Municipality of the Bono Region, Kwame Adu made the observation in an engagement with SoireeNews Regional Correspondent Nana Ama Asiedu.

 Stress is any type of change that causes physical, emotional, or psychological strain and can be negative and destructive, taking its toll in many life areas. When stress becomes chronic or excessive, it becomes harder to adapt and cope.

 Excess stress builds up so that stress seems like a normal way of life for some women. According to him, excessive stress can lead to infertility, thus making it difficult for some women to conceive.

Premenstrual syndrome is more severe with increasing stress levels. Women are also more prone to stress-related weight gain. He added that excess stress can affect sex drive in men and women, oral health, cardiovascular system.

Other health conditions that can be triggered by stress are diabetes, hypertension among others.

He has however advised the general public to regularly visit the hospital for checkups. Mr Adu also urged people to lower their expectations in life to reduce their chances of being stressed.
