The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Savelugu in the Northern Region of Ghana,  Madam Hajia Ayishetu Seidu has entreated parents to abstain from the habit of sending their girls to early marriages.

She made the appeal at the meeting of parents in the rural areas of the Municipality to raise their interest in educating their children.

In her address, she said women have a greater responsibility in every society so there is the need for the girlchild to be educated rather than engaging them in early marriages.

“Allow your girl children to go to school and stop luring them into early marriage or compelling them to seek greener pasture in the southern sector,” the MCE said

The MCE, however, visited some basic schools in the Municipality to ascertain how Teaching and learning are being held amidst the covid-19 pandemic.

She made a passionate appeal to school dropout's in the area to consider returning back to school, stressing that, the Free Senior High School has come to ease tension on both parents and the school-going age in the country.

The MCE advised the pupils to take their studies seriously and make good use of the huge investment the NPP government is putting in the Educational sector.

The MCE used the occasion to distribute nose masks and hand sanitizers to some of the locals as part of measures to stem the spread of the covid-19 pandemic.
