Steve Bruce is on the verge of being sacked by Newcastle United.

The race to be Newcastle’s next manager is hotting up amid reports that the English professional football manager will be sacked this week.

The Saudi Public Investment Fund completed their £305m takeover of the club last week and will be looking to appoint their own manager.

The Mail report that the change could happen this week, a move that will be delight fans as they move on from the Mike Ashley era.

The report adds that Lucien Favre is one of the names linked – the former Borussia Dortmund manager turned down Crystal Palace earlier this year.

Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers and Rangers boss Steven Gerrard have also been linked.

Brighton boss Graham Potter is also said to be among the list of candidates.

The Premier League club has drawn thrice, losing the rest of their matches after seven games. They are 19th on the table,
