An eyewitness has opined that about seven passengers in the State Transport Company of Ghana, (STC) have been involved in a gory clash at Akyem Asafo motor junction, in the  Akyem Abuakwa Municipality of the Eastern Region.

According to Mr Zakariah, a resident of Akyem Asafo, the incident occurred before 2:30 am today, June 16, 2021, and revealed that two drivers of the STC are feared dead before the arrival at the Suhum government hospital, whilst 6 other passengers sustained severe injuries after the STC bus run into a trailer packed at the roadside.

The police commander of Suhum on his part said suspect driver, Abdul Raman Haruna age 45 years was driving a MAN Diesel Articulated truck with registration number GC 7150-11 from Kumasi direction towards Accra.

On reaching a portion of the road at Akyem Asafo, about 12:00am, the truck developed a mechanical fault, and the driver abandoned the truck on the road, without showing any traffic indicator on the road, or report it to any nearest Police station.

"At about 02:30 hours, suspect driver Victor Quest now deceased aged about 60 years was driving Intercity STC Scania Marcopolo bus with registration number GE 8136-16 with passengers on board from Kumasi heading towards Accra run into the rear portion of the faulty truck".

Deceased driver Victor Quest and his second driver Joshua Tay died at the spot.

The bodies were removed from the bus and deposited at Suhum Government Hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The injured passengers including the Police escort No. 46031 G/Cpl. Felix Appiah was rushed to Kibi Government Hospital Hospital for treatment.

Accident vehicles were towed from the roadside to a safer place for the free flow of traffic.

The eyewitness has accused the police of being the cause of many road accidents at Akyem Asafo because they are aware of the overspeeding of these buses especially when they approach the Motor junction of Akyem Asafo.
