Some parents Disappointed over SHS 1 Double Track in the Eastern Region
Vacated SHS students

The double-track system for Senior High School (SHS) students was supposed to contain only SHS two students for the 2021 academic calendar but it seems the double track has also been imposed on the 2021/22 academic beginners (SHS 1) of most schools in the Eastern Region of Ghana.

Information gathered by Soireenews indicates that the unfinished school projects by the government have resulted in the SHS one double-track system, and without much attention to address the challenges, the track shall proceed till 2022.

Moreover, some of the teachers who spoke to Eastern Regional Correspondent of SoireeNews, Williams Akwaboah on anonymity stated that inadequate space continues to influence the double-track system, as some of the students sleep in pairs. They lamented that classes that are supposed to contain 40 students accommodate over 60 in most schools in the Eastern Region.

According to some of the first-year students, teacher to student ratio is over 160% and it is affecting teaching as well as learning in most schools. Adding that Okuapeman SHS 1 population is over one thousand, and the highest ever in the school's history even though, about 200 placed in the school are yet to report, but the place is already full, he emphasized.

Madam Gloria Appiah, a parent who availed herself for interviewed said, the President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in his 2021 State of the Nations Address made it emphatic, that there shall be no double track for SHS 1 and 3, but this has turned to be a 'white elephant' promise after the education unit has begun with another double track for the SHS 1 students.

She 'however, lamented that she was informed about the break up of the SHS 1 double track on Sunday, May 2, after her son reported just three weeks ago to school, and the green students of the SHS 1 will vacate at the end of May 2021, so where she get GHc100 again for his son who is placed as a gold student to report at school before June 1, 2021, is a great challenge.
