A military officer is currently in detention after allegedly shooting and injuring a policewoman on lockdown duty at a checkpoint at Tema New Town

The incident has been confirmed by the Tema Regional Police according to reports from Accra based Joy FM.

The Regional Police Command disclosed that Lance Corporal Francisca Tenge was shot without confrontation.

It’s however not clear whether the weapon was discharged accidentally.

Police-military relationship in the region has been very cordial as both have played major role in enforcing the law and the current partial lockdown to curb the spread of coronavirus in the area.

The Ghana Armed Forces is yet to issue an official release on the incident.

Meanwhile, Medical Director at Tema General Hospital, Dr. Richard Anthony, whose facility Lance Corporal Francisca Tenge was taken to, says she is responding to treatment after being shot close to her thigh.
