The Ebonyi State Police Command and other security agencies have vowed to embark on a state-wide intensive patrols as part of efforts to protect lives and property over the recently declared sit-at-home order by the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.

Recall, IPOB had fixed Monday every week for its sit-at-home programme. But due to pressure, the secessionist group suspended the action.

Despite the suspension, parts of the region witnessed ghost town last week Monday.

However, in a statement issued by the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Loveth Odah, on Monday, August 23, 2021, the command warned against any group or organisers of the sit-at-home programme to steer clear of such an order or face the consequences, according to Daily Post.

According to the PPRO, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Aliyu Garba had directed the Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers, Heads of Tactical/Operational units to monitor the activities of the secessionist group to ensure that there is law and order in state.

The Commissioner stated that the command has zero-tolerance for lawlessness, stating that the security agencies in the State would no longer fold their hands and watch any group or persons violate the fundamental rights of the law-abiding citizens, stressing that Ebonyi has been a peaceful state.

He assured residents of adequate security, urging them to go about their lawful businesses without fear of intimidation or harassment from any group or persons.

He said, “The general public, especially parents and guardians, should monitor and discourage their children/wards from engaging in any unlawful activity or criminal acts as the long arm of the law definitely will catch up with any criminal”.
