An international company based in the United States of America and Togo, called Alaffia is set to establish a multipurpose Shea nut factory in   Sherigu a community within the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.

The factory according to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alaffia company, Mr. Olowo N’djo Tchala will boost the economy of Bolgatanga and Ghana in general.

He said 60% of shea nuts in the Northern parts of Ghana are left in the bush uncollected therefore the company will train gatherers on the proper method by which they can assemble it well.

The CEO of Alafia company Mr. Olowo N’djo Tchala during a sod-cutting ceremony in Sherigu on Wednesday 17th February 2021, disclosed that the purpose for the shea nut company to be sited in Sherigu is to uplift the living standards of the community in diverse ways such as employment and education.

He declared that the project is expected to commence in three weeks and expected to be completed within five months.

The paramount chief of the Sherigu tradition area Naaba Aluman Apasinaba II expressed his appreciation towards the project.

He said the factory will help his community in terms of revenue generation via shea butter production.

He added that it will also create employment for the poor and marginalize women in Sherigu.

Naaba Aluman Apasinaba II said it is his prayer that the company will recruit the youth in the community to work for the factory.

He further appealed to the company to kindly assist the community with portable drinking water to help the women from trekking far distances for water and also consider using local artisans to partake in the construction of the factory.
