On the offset of the effect of the novel coronavirus, Facebook has devised an improvement to its app that allows artistes to make money while streaming live videos.

This means that Ghanaian artistes with a large following on the Facebook platform will soon have the chance to earn thousands of dollars every week if they subscribe to the new tool.

The social media site announced its new initiative of helping artistes move on to the new era of show business, providing a way for artistes to earn money from the platform without having to resort to holding real time shows.

"You’ll be able to mark Facebook Events as online only and, in the coming weeks, integrate Facebook Live so you can broadcast to your guests,” it said in a press statement.

“To support creators and small businesses, we plan to add the ability for Pages to charge for access to events with Live videos on Facebook – anything from online performances to classes to professional conferences,” the statement said.

The entertainment industry has to resort to new ways to earn money for its individuals because the pandemic has naturally made it difficult to hold real life shows across the globe, and Facebook is stepping up in that regards.

So far, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Shatta Wale, and other female stars like Becca, Efya and Wendy Shay are the most followed artistes on Facebook. Considering the volume of their followers, they will be able to make some extra dollars off their craft. The Mark Zuckerberg-led company is also introducing Messenger Rooms video calls for up to 50 people.
