Seven more bodies found dumped in river

Near the location where a dozen other deaths have been found over the past two years, seven additional bodies have been pulled from the River Yala in western Kenya.

According to a police report viewed by representatives of the Yala sub-county mortuary, the unclaimed bodies were pulled out of the river in the previous two months.

As they are awaiting autopsy, the bodies have not yet been recognized.

According to mortuary officials, four deaths were found by riverside locals, and three bodies were found by divers in September.

The most recent find brings the total number of bodies pulled from the river since January to more than 30.

Human rights advocates claim that because of the discovery of unidentified dead in the river, the locals are terrified.

Police have not yet offered any comments on the situation.

The results of forensic investigations done at the beginning of the year to determine who was guilty and the reason for the deaths have not yet been made public.

Concern has been raised about events involving the disposal of the dead in Kenyan rivers.

In the northeastern county of Garissa, 11 remains were recovered in a river a year ago.
