Sergio Ramos will miss Real Madrid’s Champions League quarter-final clash against Liverpool due to injury.

The Spanish sustained a calf injury at training and it is reported he will be out for a month.

“After the tests carried out today on our captain Sergio Ramos by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he was diagnosed with a muscle injury in the internal twin of his left leg. Pending evolution,” the statement said.

Ramos further confirmed through a post on his Instagram that he picked up the injury in training.

"The truth is that I have had a pretty tough few weeks," Ramos wrote on Instagram.

"An operation is always tough from a sporting and emotional standpoint. Luckily, for a few days now I have been feeling better, but in football as in life, bad luck also plays a role.

"Yesterday, after the game, I was training on the pitch and I noticed a pain in my left calf. Today I have been tested and it has been confirmed that I have a muscle injury.

"If there is something that hurts me, it is not being able to help the team in these highly demanding matches in which we play the season and also not being able to return the love and energy that you transmit to me on the pitch. I can't do anything but speak frankly, work hard and cheer on the team with my soul."

The statement means Ramos will not reunite with Mohamed Salah after their incident in the 2018 European Cup final which led to the premature exit of the Egyptian.

Real Madrid went ahead to win the trophy after a 3-1 win at Kiev.

The captain of Los Blancos will also miss April 10 El Classico clash with Barcelona before visiting the Reds at Anfield on April 16 for the Champions League second leg.
