Scores of court users left disappointed

Scores of people have been left disappointed at the Ashaiman circuit court following the strike action declared by the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana(JUSAG).

The JUSAG strike action which started yesterday, May 26,2023 follows the government's renege on paying what they termed, "Cost Of Living Allowance(COLA)".

According to JUSAG, the Judicial Council submitted a proposal in 2021 for approval on salary increments, however, nothing was done about it.

The Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG) notified the public of it's intentions to embark on an indefinite strike if the government fails to approve recommendations on salary reviews and other allowances.

Excerpt from the letter read“We wish to notify your outfit that if by Friday, 12th May 2023, we still do not receive the approval, we shall embark on the following industrial actions: 1. Wearing of red armbands to work from 15th May 2023 for one week. 2. If no approval is received by 19th May 2023, we shall embark on an indefinite strike,” the association said in a letter dated May 5, 2023, and addressed to the National Labour Commission.

According to JUSAG, the Judicial Council's proposal in 2021 for approval on salary increments has however not received any favourable attention.

“Even though our economic situation has deteriorated due to the adverse economic situation in the country coupled with the withdrawal of the cost of living allowance in December 2022, we have been patient for four months now",the letter stated in part.

“The rank and file of our members are very much aggrieved and agitated,” JUSAG further said in its letter.
