Ryan Giggs says he is innocent of the assault charges against him.

The former Manchester United player was charged by the Crown Prosecution Service for assaulting two women and controlling or coercive behaviour, talkSPORTS report.

The Wales boss will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday, April 28 after suspicion of assaulting two women.

The 46-year-old man was arrested and questioned on suspicion of actual bodily harm and assault involving a woman in her thirties last year November. The woman sustained minor injuries that did not require any treatment as Giggs was later released on bail pending further inquiries until his recent charge.

“We have authorized Greater Manchester Police to charge Ryan Giggs with engaging in behaviour which was controlling or coercive and assault occasioning actual bodily harm,” The CPS said cited on talkSPORTS.

“A charge of assault by beating relating to a second woman has also been authorised. Mr Giggs will appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 28th April.

“The CPS made the decision to charge Mr Giggs after reviewing a file of evidence from Greater Manchester Police.

“Criminal proceedings are active and nothing should be published that could jeopardise the defendant's right to a fair trial.”

Giggs has also issued a statement after the news of assault saying he is innocent and ready to clear his name.

“I have full respect for the due process of law and understand the seriousness of the allegations,” Giggs said.

“I will plead not guilty in court and look forward to clearing my name.

“I would like to wish Robert Page, the coaching staff, the players and the supporters every success at the Euros this summer.”

Giggs will not manage Wales at Euro 2020 as a result of the charges.

The Wales boss has been dismissed from his job shortly after the news broke of the 46-year charges. The Football Association of Wales announced that he will not be in the dugout at Euro 2020.
