Rwandan singer Yvan Buravan dies from cancer aged 27

The management of Rwandan musician Yvan Buravan told the BBC that he passed away at the age of 27.

The singer was receiving treatment in India for pancreatic cancer after receiving a diagnosis.

Before being transferred to India, he had already had treatment in Rwanda and Kenya.

When Buravan placed second in a national music competition at the age of 14, his musical talent was discovered.

He rose to fame in Rwanda as a result of the 2016 hit song Malaika.

He won the Prix Découvertes in 2018, one of the major music competitions in Africa run by RFI and Unesco.

On social media, a lot of Rwandans are lamenting his passing.
