Rwanda will not accept DR Congo refugees - Kagame

According to Rwandan President Paul Kagame, his nation would no longer provide asylum to individuals escaping turmoil in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Numerous refugees have been compelled to cross the border into Rwanda due to decades of unrest in the country's east.

Mr. Kagame emphasized that "this is not Rwanda's problem" and that "I am refusing that Rwanda should bear this load."

The White House tweeted on Mr. Kagame's comments.

He claimed that when it came to the eastern DR Congo, the rest of the world had entirely missed the point.

He believes that the surviving Hutu extremist forces who attempted to exterminate his Tutsi ethnic minority during the 1994 genocide pose the greatest threat to national security.

Rwanda is being accused of backing the M23 rebel group - which the country has always denied.

The rebel group has captured swathes of territory in recent months, sending tens of thousands of refugees across the border into Rwanda.
