Residents Of Mepe Congratulate President Mahama For Appointing Madam Victoria Yawa Amefadzi Doe As DCE For North Tongu District Assembly

Residents of Mepe Traditional Area in the North Tongu District of Ghana’s Volta Region have erupted in resounding joy following the appointment of their native, Madam Victoria Yawa Amefadzi Doe, as the new District Chief Executive (DCE) for the North Tongu District Assembly.
The Mepe Reform Union (MRU), alongside community members, extended heartfelt congratulations to President John Dramani Mahama for fulfilling his pledge to appoint a Mepe citizen to the DCE role. This milestone marks the first time a member of the Mepe Traditional Area has been appointed to the position since the inception of the Fourth Republic in 1992.
In a statement issued by the MRU leadership on behalf of the community, the Union hailed Madam Doe’s appointment as a testament to President Mahama’s commitment to entrusting competent and dedicated leaders with advancing his government’s development agenda, particularly at the grassroots level.
Signed by MRU Chairman Senanu Asitiakor and copied to this outlet, the statement emphasized Madam Doe’s deep understanding of the district’s challenges and her readiness to collaborate with stakeholders to drive unity, progress, and prosperity.
“Madam Doe, a daughter of Mepe in whom we take great pride, has consistently shown a strong commitment to addressing the needs of our people. Her leadership will undoubtedly inspire positive change, improve livelihoods, and promote sustainable development across North Tongu’s towns and villages,” the statement read.
The MRU also commended President Mahama for his “excellent choice,” expressing confidence that Madam Doe’s tenure would unlock the district’s full potential. However, the statement underscored lingering concerns over the aftermath of the Akosombo and Akuse dam spillages in October 2023, which displaced hundreds of Mepe residents and devastated livelihoods.
“We anticipate urgent collaboration with Madam Doe’s administration to deliver efficient governance and lasting solutions for those still grappling with the crisis,” the Union added.
Appealing for unity, the MRU called on North Tongu’s Assembly members to unanimously endorse Madam Doe during her confirmation.
“We urge Honorable Assembly members to honor the collective aspirations of our people by granting Madam Doe a resounding endorsement. This reflects our shared commitment to development and the spirit of cooperation that defines North Tongu,” the statement concluded.
Madam Doe’s appointment has ignited hope for accelerated recovery and inclusive growth in the district, with residents pledging support for her vision of dedicated and integrity-driven leadership.
