Scores of residents of of Kwahu Osubeng in the Kwahu South Municipality in the Eastern Region have lamented over the deplorable nature of the road network in the community.

The roads, which link major routes to some of the commercial centres of the Municipality are severely deteriorated making it difficult for residents to access basic social amenities, especially during rainy seasons.

They said the bad nature of the road has not only deprived them of basic amenities, but also threatened their lives and properties which has affected development activities in the area.

Speaking in an interview with Soireenews.com via telephone call on Tuesday August 30, 2022, the spokesperson for the residents,Mr Emmanuel Asare Mensahkrom noted that the residents have threatened not to vote in the December 7, 2024, general elections if their bad roads are not fixed as a matter of urgency.

According to the residents, the bad nature of the road in the area has led to many pregnant women having miscarriages anytime they use the Osubeng road to the Prasso area to seek treatment.

They added that if nothing is done about the dilapidated roads, they will not allow anybody to bring ballot boxes to the area for people to vote come December 7, 2024.

“We cannot continue to be voting when our needs are not being attended to as citizens,” they noted.

The residents poured out their frustrations  explained that they cannot travel anytime it rains in the area.

They said what is supposed to be potholes on the road have turned into manholes.


The chief of the area, Nana Adjei Debrah II has spoken with the the Member of Parliament (MP) for Mpraeso Constituency, Mr. Davis Opoku Ansah and the Kwahu South Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Emmanuel Ata Ofori Snr, to intervene but to no avail.

They further claimed that the area is a Cocoa production hub in Kwahu South but they do not seem to understand why they have not benefited from the Cocoa roads projects.

They pointed out that Kwahu Osubeng road is now a thorn in the flesh of residents in the area, it has affected our social and economic relationship with the rest of the country", he noted.

They said "most commercial motorists do not want to ply the road for fear of damaging their vehicles, which worsen our plight when we are in dire need of their services to seek maternal health care."

"This road directly affects us especially. It can lead to miscarriages and worsen our ailments when plying it for health care services" the women interviewed by this reporter added.

Kweku Assare, a Trader at the Kwahu Osubeng Market also noted that "I close very early because motorists plying the road do not operate at certain hours of the day for fear of possible robbery, which adversely affects my business."

He therefore calling on the MCE, MP and government as a whole to take a swift action on their roads since all other  nearby town roads have been fixed except Osubeng.

When contacted, Member of Parliament for Mpraeso Constituency, Mr. Davis Opoku Ansah described the deplorable nature of the road as worrying, noting that the road was in the stage to be awarded but due to the current financial crisis that has hit the government.

The young MP stressed that he is still making a lot of efforts to lobby the government to fix the road and called on the residents to be calmed.
