At the Nana Abena market redevelopment site

The Municipal Chief Executive for For Techiman Municipal, Hon Benjamin Yaw Gyarko together with Officers on Wednesday, November 10, 2021, paid a working visit to inspect the progress of work at the Nana Abena market redevelopment site.

The project is one of the inherited projects under the Ghana Secondary Cities Support Program (GSCSP) as the site engineer and the contractors took the team around for the inspection.

Among the facilities in the markets are lockable shops, stalls, restaurants, supermarkets, crèche,  police post, fire station, sickbay, washrooms, butchers room and offices.

The team after the rounds and upon interaction with the contractors realised that the 17th December 2021 deadline can not be met and the contractors had, as a result, requested an extension to the first quarter of 2022.

Hon Benjamin Yaw Gyarko commended the contractors and his predecessor Hon John Kofi Donyina for such a wonderful project.

He was, however, not happy with the missed timeline for the completion. He, therefore, entreated the contractor's endeavour to meet the new timeline.

He assured them that funding agencies through the government had made funds readily available for the project for them to access anytime to facilitate their works.

Later in the afternoon, the MCE visited members of the Garages Association at Techiman magazine for discussions. He introduced himself to them and acknowledged their contributions to the development of Techiman.

The group, in welcoming the MCE, mentioned poor lighting, lack of refuse container, poor road network, improper valuation of their properties for tax purposes by the Assembly’s Revenue collectors among others as their challenges.

They called for the MCE, in particular, to intervene to resolve a conflict that exist between two groups at the Magazine.

They thanked the MCE for his visit as they claimed was the first time in history an MCE has visited them at their workplace to listen to their concerns.

The MCE assured them that the Assembly, together with the MP,  Hon Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah will team up to address the concerns raised. He then thanked them for their reception and urged them not to hesitate to call on the Assembly when the need arises.

Present at the meeting were the Municipal Coordinating Director and Municipal Finance Officer.
