Fishmongers at the Kumasi Racecourse Market in the Ashanti Region have called on the Mayor for Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Mr. Osei Asibey Antwi, and the Kumasi city to address their challenges.

Speaking in an exclusive interview with Soiree news on Tuesday,  February 2nd, 2021, the leader of the racecourse market fishmongers Nana Hemaa Ampong outlined that the market needs electricity and adequate security to ensure traders' safety.

Expressing her reactions to the recent decision of the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) to evacuate the traders into the various Satellite Markets within the metropolis, Nana Ampong said she had done all she could to get her members out of the Streets to the Racecourse market but to no avail due to the aforementioned challenges by the Assembly.

"We have on several occasions spoken about the issue of these roadside market women moving in with us at Racecourse but to no avail. Everything is ready for settlement and it's very spacious in here" but the challenges we have here at Racecourse are lack of security and electricity. I personally pay men to sleep at the market just to guard it," she lamented.

She said the situation is alarming and needs to be addressed by the city's authorities with immediacy.
