Afigya Kwabre South Police Commander, DSP Stephen Ofori Akrasi has cautioned certain 'influential people' in the society to quit pleading and negotiating for the release of criminals when detained for wrong doing.

Armed Robbery is one of the challenging effects in the Afigya Kwabre South District threatening lives and properties. Frequent occurrence of robbery and disturbances on Aduamoah-Aduman-Aboabogya road, Ejuratia-Hemnag enclave and Hemang Township plus Kodie, Atimatim and its environment is very upsetting tagging the place as unsafe by some inhabitants.

 

 

Briefing the press at the District's ‘Meet the Press’ programme, DSP Ofori disclosed that criminals detained are sometimes called to be released by persuasive personalities in the District.

He advised government appointees and Chiefs to put a stop to inducing the Police for the liberation of arms men who need to face the law.

He divulged that Chieftaincy and Political interference is a distraction for the Police to execute their mandate not only in the district but every part of Ghana.

“Ministers and Assembly members do call for the release of certain criminals especially when election is pending”

“They don’t care about the criminal record of such people. They do this for the sake of votes and if such attitudes are not halted, the police would never execute their duties in a just manner”

“They are the same people who blame us (Police) for bribery”

He cautioned leaders in his District Assembly not to involve him in such political favors.
