Paris Saint Germain have revisited Lionel Messi’s transfer saga once again after their exit from the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Ligue 1 club were tagged favourites to win the European club competition after showing Bayern Munich the exit door in the quarter-final yet an unusual performance in the hands of Manchester City in the semis divulged that a revamp is required to make them competitive next season.

Lionel Messi was strongly linked to PSG before Joan Laporta was reelected as the new president of Barcelona with almost a month left for his contract to end.

No talks have been held with the player and his agent although there are reports of Messi likely to extend his contract with the Blaugranas.

Le Parisien reports that PSG are focused on improving in three areas: they want a world-class superstar, a midfielder and a right-back.

The outlet has revealed that Messi inclusion in the Project is key to stakeholders of the French club and they are confident that the Argentine’s arrival plus Neymar, Mbappe and two more could inject some cohesion in the current squad to challenge for European honours.

Paris is struggling to get Mbappe to extend his contract which finishes in 2022, with Neymar’s disclosed to be all agreed.

Failure to land Messi could switch their attention to Liverpool for Mohamed Salah.

PSG are currently second on the Ligue 1 table after 35 goals, trailing Lille by just a point.
