The Pru East National Health Insurance Directorate has held its 2020 annual review meeting.

It will be recalled that, since the implementation of the NHIS in 2004, authorities of the scheme have been rendering account to Ghanaians annually in their designated Municipalities and Districts.

The Pru East District National Health Insurance Manager, Mr Ahmed Taminu during the review meeting with stakeholders, explained that they were given a target to register a total number of 98,457 new members in 2020 but they were able to register 71,304 in the year under review.

He affirmed that, during the numerous challenges the covid-19 pandemic posed to them, his outfit was able to achieve their operational target through the adoption of some strategies.

On the outlook of 2021, Mr Taminu said a provisional target of 67, 244 had been given to the Pru East Directorate to be registered as new members under the scheme before the end of the year.

They are also to register10,630 leap beneficiaries, prison inmates, physically challenged people and indigents before the end of 2021.

"Again, we have 7,130 students under the school feeding program that we have to register this year," he told the media.

He also made mention of their revenue mobilization for the year, according to Ahmed Taminu, his outfit is expected to generate GHc562,795.00.

He further revealed that the Pru East National Health Insurance Directorate will constantly educate the people on mobile renewal to help ease the inconveniences beneficiaries of the scheme goes through when trying to renew their cards.

Mr Ahmed said they will be embarking on a sanitization program to sensitize beneficiaries on drugs and other medical services they can benefit from while under the scheme and also said they will soon link the NHIS card to the Ghana Card.
