The refusal of a Prison Officer to surrender a 340 ghana cedis and a handbag containing other belongings has resulted in his untimely death during a robbery operation on 27 January 2022.

According to officials of the Ghana Police Service, the 59-year-old Dzaka Francis Mawunyo was among victims of a robbery incident that took place between Brimso And Enyinasi on Asiakwa-Apedwa stretch of Accra-Kumasi Highway in the Eastern Region on Thursday afternoon

Preliminary investigations suggest that three armed men suspected to be Fulani extraction stopped the vehicles and robbed the passengers of their properties including cash, mobile phones, and other belongings.

It was further disclosed that a 46-seater Hyundai bus with registration number AP 260-22 amongst the vehicles robbed had one of the passengers killed being the security officer.

It Is gathered that the robbers demanded the deceased to surrender his bag but he resisted, as a result, one of the robbers armed with a pump-action gun fired at him at close range by the left eye of the deceased head killing him instantly.

The robbers subsequently collected the bag of the deceased and fled with it.

A search conducted on the deceased disclosed an amount of  GHC340.00 and one prison ID card bearing his name, Dzaka Francis Mawunyo.

Meanwhile, other passengers on board the bus surrounded their belongings to the suspected criminals including mobile phones and cash and were spared any harm.

The body of the deceased has since been deposited at Kibi Government Hospital mortuary pending autopsy while one other passenger identified as  Francis Adusei aged 22 years and a student of Akrokeri College of Education has been admitted at the emergency ward of the same hospital responding to treatment

Security has been strengthened on the stretch to apprehend the perpetrators
