Ghana’s President, Nana Akufo-Addo has gone into self-isolation over fears of being exposed to an “inner circle member” who contracted the coronavirus disease.’
This was contained in a statement dated July 4, 2020, and signed by the Minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah.
“On the advice of doctors, the President of the Republic, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, is from today, July 4, 2020, taking a fourteen (14) day precautionary self-isolation measure in compliance with COVID-19 protocols
“The President has elected to do so after at least one person within his close circle tested positive for COVID-19 today” the statement added.
It however did not disclose who among the President’s “circle” contracted the disease.
The statement said, although President Akufo-Addo has tested negative for the virus, he has still decided to self-isolate “out of the abundance of caution.”
This development comes just a day after the president, accompanied by some presidential staff, toured some voters’ registration centres in the Greater Accra Region.
Akufo-Addo toured the Kanda Cluster of Schools Registration Centre in Ayawaso East, the Abossey Okai Presby Registration Centre in Ablekuma Central and the Ebenezer Funeral Parlour (1&2) Registration Centres in Weija-Gbawe.
