President Akufo Addo stands with  "kith and kin in America" over Floyd's murder

The President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has expressed deep condolence to the family and loved ones of the late Black American, George Floyd.

The Ghanaian president joined the list of personalities who have condemned the dreadful act of the Minneapolis former officers, which led to the death of the American.

 

 

“Black people, the world over are shocked and distraught by the killing of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, by a white police officer in the United States of America. It carried with it an all too painful familiarity and an ugly reminder. It cannot be right that, in the 21 st century, the United States, this great bastion of democracy, continues to grapple with the problem of systematic racism.

“On behalf of the people of Ghana, I express my deep condolences to the family and loved ones of the late George Floyd,” he said on his twitter handle.

Some major cities in the United States have been occupied for the past week with protests seeking justice for an unarmed George Floyd, a black American who died on May 25, 2020, when a white Minneapolis officer knelt on his neck for almost nine minutes to pin him down.

Nana Addo Dankwa has sought for Justice for the murdered man and his family concluding that Ghana “stand with our kith and kin in America in these difficult times, and we hope that the unfortunate, tragic death of George Floyd will inspire a long-lasting change in how America confronts on the problems of hate and racism.”

 

 

A report filed by the New York Times on Sunday, May 31, claims that “By combining videos from bystanders and security cameras, reviewing official documents and consulting experts, The New York Times reconstructed in detail the minutes leading to Mr. Floyd’s death.

“Our video shows officers taking a series of actions that violated the policies of the Minneapolis Police Department and turned fatal, leaving Mr. Floyd unable to breathe, even as he and onlookers called out for help.”

Chauvin, the former police officer has since been charged with his murder and sacked.
