Pray For Peace To Prevail In Bawku—Upper East Regional Minister Urges Members Of Catholic Faith 

The Upper East RegionalMinister, Honourable Akamugri Donatus Atanga, has called on the members of the Catholic faith and other religious groups including Ghanaians to offer prayers to God for him to ensure the rival factions in the Bawku conflict to reconsider their positions and allow lasting peace to prevail in the area.

Consequently, the MP commended the current Bishop of the Navrongo–Bolgatanga Catholic Diocese, His Lordship, Most Rev. Alfred Agyenta for his outstanding leadership in promoting religious harmony and peace in the Upper East Region.

He has, therefore, requested for continuous prayers and divine intervention for peace in Bawku, Doba-Kandiga and other troubled communities of "our region and country."

The MP called and christians leaders and Ghanaians  to offer prayers to seek the healthy and good lives from the Almighty God for President, His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and his appointees to steer the affairs of this country to ensure massive development and growth.

"I am requesting same to grant His Excellency the President, and his appointees, good health and wisdom to reset this country for the betterment of all," he appealed.

Honourable Atanga made the call when he jouned members of the Catholic faith to climax the centenary celebration of the Catholic Church held at Sacred Heart Cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church in Bolgatanga.

Themed "100 years of walking together as a family of God," the event was heavily attended by high profile personalities including Most Rev. Bishop Alfred Agyenta; Reverend Fathers, Sisters and Brothers Present; His Eminence, the Regional Chief Imam, Sheikh Alhaji Umar Yussuf; Heads of Institutions and Agencies; Representatives of Civil Society and Development Partners.

Addressing the gathering, Honourable Atanga, it is with great joy and profound gratitude that he joined the members of Catholic faith to climax the centenary celebration.

The MP welcomed the theme of the event, and expressed his warmest felicitations and goodwill to the Catholic Church and the Diocese on this  historic Centenary Anniversary of the church in the area.

According to the MP,  100 years in the life of an institution such as the Catholic Church is no mere achievement. 

This, he stressed it is a remarkable testament to "your selflessness and enduring power of faith, resilience and commitment to the service of God andhumanity. Indeed, it is a milestone worthy of celebration and deeper reflection.

"Distinguished Ladies and Gentlemen, the Catholic Church has been a pillar and a beacon of hope, compassion and service in the region and country," he added.

He indicated that the Church has been a dependable partner in shaping moral values, fostering unity, promoting peace and driving human development, and "your footprints are visible in virtually every sphere of life, particularly in the areas of education, health,agriculture and economic empowerment of our people.

As a government, he noted they recognised with deep appreciation the strong partnership that has existed between the state and the Church in the collective effort to improve the welfare of Ghanaian's citizens, promote national cohesion and accelerated development.

"My Lord Bishop, it is in this light that government pledges its continuous collaboration and partnership with the Church as an instrument of peace, social justice and human development.

"My Brothers and Sisters in Christ, so as we climax the centenary celebration, it is my fervent hope that the Diocese will continue to inspire renewed commitment to the values of faith, love, service and dedication to the common good of our people.We pray for continued growth, strength, and divine blessings upon the Diocese, its leadership particularly my lord Bishop, and all faithfuls.

"Once again, congratulations to the Diocese on this remarkable achievement. May the Almighty God continue to guide and strengthen the church in its noble mission," he concluded.
