A policeman in one of the Akuapem Police units has abandoned his 4wheel vehicle at a bus stop for over six months and efforts to remove the car have proved futile.

According to the Secretary of Tutu Concern Youth, Yaw Asiedu, the said car has been on the roadside of the street for over 6 months, and the rusting piles of metal has begun suffocating.

He narrated, that they have reported the problem to the District Commander of Police but the authorities are yet to clear it from the street, making the bus stop nonfunctional for the past six months.

Madam Rose Asamoah, a resident said, aside from the obvious concerns that this car has encroached upon public space, the abandoned car is also a major environmental hazard.

Adding that ageing vehicles don’t always need to be on the road to cause damage to the environment and the car is now a threat to the residents because it makes the crossing of the road to the other side of the town dangerous, making visibility uneasy as most trotro in the area now stop in the inner lane.

She stressed that the coolant of the car liquid leaks and seep into the ground contaminating the asphalt whilst other leaked liquids have found their way into the groundwater which serves the community.

Others warned that if the Municipal authorities refuse to adhere to their plea by towing the car from the bus stop before Monday, May 10, 2021, they will tow the abandoned vehicle from the system.
