Investigations are underway to arrest the two other suspected armed robbers.

The Ghana Police Service dispatched its new Anti-Armed Robbery Task Force (AARTF) in a sting operation against Armed Robbers as part of a strategy to curb violence and other organized crime and discover the purported hideout of criminals.

COP Yeboah said the operation was part of security measures by the Police Administration under the new Anti Armed Robbery Tasks Force (AARIF) strategy to curb robberies and other violent crimes in the country.

He said in response to the intelligence gathered, a team from the National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit and three other Combat Patrol Teams were dispatched to the location to retrieve the said weapons.

Director-General, Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Commissioner of Police (COP) Isaac Ken Yeboah, made these known during a press conference on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.

The Director-General said some of the suspected robbers took to their heels on seeing the Police, adding that during a search at the premises of one of the suspected robbers (yet to be identified), who was hiding in a nearby room, opened fire on the Police and in the process, hit the hand of one of the officers, injuring his two fingers in the process.

The Police were acting on Intelligence about some Arms and Ammunitions that had been concealed by an alleged gang of Armed Robbers at Ntoaso, near Adoagyir, in the Nsawam Adoagyir Municipality, in the Eastern Region.

The Police dispatched its National Operations Directorate (NOD) Surveillance Unit and three other Combat Patrol Teams to the area where gunfire exchanges were recorded.

The report added, that the assorted items and weapons/Ammunitions retrieved at the hideouts include a traditional Warrior Smock, believed to possess juju Powers, an AK 47 Assault Rifle, an M 16 Rifle, a Pump Action Gun, a locally manufactured pistol, one gun, 7.62 x 39mm (AK 47 Ammo)  with 2,882 Rounds, 5.56 x 45mm (M 16 Ammo)  840 Rounds, BB Cartridges  23 Rounds 7.62 x 51mm, a Machete, Sword  One, a Claw Bar, Military Camouflage Uniform.

Investigations are underway to arrest the two other suspected armed robbers.
