Police find the gouged eyeballs of the Nigerian teen

In connection with the gouging out of a teenager's eyes in the northern state of Bauchi, Nigerian police have detained three individuals.

According to police spokesperson Ahmed Mohammed Wakil, the suspects were apprehended after a manhunt.

The 16-year-old victim's eyes were discovered in a calabash in the residence of the main suspect, who authorities believe enticed the boy in with a promise of a low-paying work on a farm.

On suspicion of collaborating with the main suspect to commit what the police refer to as an "atrocity," two additional suspects have been detained.

The three suspects have not yet made any public statements, but according to the authorities, they will face charges in court once the inquiry is finished.

Initial investigations indicate the suspects had planned to use the eyeballs for charm rituals, the police said.
