The fear of Liverpool fans rushing to the streets to jubilate over the long awaited premier league trophy has been the concern of the police.

The Merseyside Reds have been without the branded English Premier League trophy for 30 years now and were two wins away from breaking the misfortune when the global coronavirus brought about a halt in all sporting activities to enable the social distancing rule to be observed as a key measure.

Sportsmail has disclosed that at least two top-flight clubs have told their footballing employees that there is now a loose aim for the first set of fixtures after the coronavirus delay to take place on June 6 or the following weekend but it is likely clubs will begin what is essential pre-season training by mid-May. One club has pinpointed May 11 as a potential return date, while another has pencilled in May 8.

According to the Liverpool echo, informal discussions have been held with police to try and prevent fans from congregating outside Anfield on the day they are crowned champions.

When football returns it is likely to happen behind closed doors and discussions are believed to be ongoing about how to control potential large gatherings after more than 750,000 fans congregating on the streets of the city to greet Liverpool's Champions League victory parade last June.

Premier League clubs, believed by Sportsmail are starting to brief staff they expect football to restart by June 13 yet clubs will be allowed to make their own decisions on when to recommence group-training sessions, according to social distancing guidelines, depending on their players' fitness levels.
