Police Command update on the murder of Nana Kwame Appiagyei Danka in the Offinso Municipality

The Ashanti Regional Police command has revealed to the press that it has begun investigation into the alleged murder and attempted murder, involving Nana Kwame Appiagyei Danka, 35, and victim Nana Appiagyei, 35 respectively in the Offinso Municipality in the Ashanti Region.

In a video revealed by the Public Affairs Officer of the Ashanti Regional Police, ASP Godwin Ahianyo, the Offinso Police on Thursday, May 30, had a report that one Nana Appiagyei had been murdered at new Offinso.

The police proceeded to the scene where the alleged murder had taken place, but the victims were not found. The police extended their enquiries to the St Patrick Hospital mass emergency unit where Nana Kusi was met in a very critical condition with gunshot wounds in the head.  

He continued that the police subsequently identified the body of the deceased, Nana Kwame Appiagyei dressed in a black shirt over a pair of trousers, lying on a bed in a supine position with suspected bullet on the left side of the chest and the ones on the right thigh as earlier reported murdered.

ASP Godwin Ahianyo read that the Police investigation has however established that on May 20,3 2021 at about 10 am, both the deceased and the injured attended a ceremony organized by Nana Sika Dufie, the queen mother of Offinso Asamankama to select a new chief for the community. According to information gathered by the police, four men were presented by their family heads to the queen mother as their nominees for stool, Police were informed that Frank Osei Bonsu was chosen as the new chief for the community.

“Soon after the declaration by the queen mother, it was alleged that a scuffle ensued between the supporters of four pedestrian families, it was again alleged that the deceased, Nana Appiagyei Danka went into his vehicle, pulled out a pump-action gun and fired at Nana Akwasi who sustained head injuries in the process,” he told.

“According to reports, supporters of Nana Kusi that shoot Nana Appiagyei Danka took his gun from him and shot him severally and also vandalized his vehicle, Victim Nana Kusi has since been transferred to the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital for treatment whiles the body of the deceased has been deposited at St Patrick's hospital Morgue Kumasi for preservation.”

He updated that police have since retrieved two empty AA cartridges from the crime scene and retained the same for evidential purposes.

“The Regional Command has taken a serious view of the situation, since the parties involved, failed to inform the police of the event, which is in contravention of the Public Order such legal action will be taken against the organizers of the event.

“Meantime the Offinso Divisional Police Command has extended invitation to the queen mother of Asamankama to assist police with investigation.”
