Police Command deny 'sexual abuse' attached to Spiritan SHTS robbery incident

The Ashanti Regional Police Command have denied reports linking any act of sexual abuse to the robbery incident at the Spiritan Senior High Technical School at Adankwame in the Atwima Nwabiagya North District of Ashanti Region on Saturday.

SoireeNews broke the news of the attack but interceptions by other websites changed the original content which involved sexual molestation into the matter.

The Police Command have denied any sexual attachment as published by “knustnews.com with the headline Robbers Invade Senior High School' in the Ashanti Region Sexually Molest Girls".

“The Command wishes to state that although there was an alleged case of robbery at the Spiritan Senior High School at Adankwame in the Ashanti Region, the students were not sexually molested as is being alleged in the news story,” the statement said.

“On Friday 12 February 2021 the Headmaster of the said Senior High School accompanied by two (2) female victims (names withheld) went to the Adankwame Police Station and reported that at about 09:28 pm. Three men wielding a machete and a pistol attacked and robbed them of their mobile phones and unspecified amount of money.

“The students' victim again alleged that the suspected armed men forcibly opened their chop boxes and made away with assorted provisions and afterwards bolted. The victims who were alone at the time in the hostel, out of fear jumped from the first floor to the basement of the said Hostel to report the incident to the school authorities.

“The Police is investigating the said robbery incident to get the perpetrators arrested and bring them to justice,” it added.

According to the Command, since the creation of the Bohyen District Command, and with the provision of a vehicle and motorbikes, robberies in the area has been brought to its minimum. Records at the Adankwame Police Station indicate that robbery cases are few due to Police vehicular and motorbikes patrols.

They, therefore, wish to allay the fears of the good people of Adankwame and its environs, that the Police is on top of crime and will make sure the area is safe for a law-abiding citizen to go about their duties/businesses without fear of criminal attacks.

“It is the hope of the Command to fight crime to its barest minimum and therefore asks the general public to collaborate in this regard, by sharing information about the activities of criminals in their vicinity.
