Jamie Carragher has said that its time Manchester United let go of Paul Pogba following his dip in form for the club.

The former Juventus midfielder’s contract runs out in 2021 although the Red Devils have an option to extend the deal for another year yet seem not ready to influence the swinging Premier League club.

Pogba has played six matches in the 2020/21 season and has two shots on target without a goal yet. With his £290,000 per week wage, Carragher believes the player is not proving his worth regardless of his world cup honour.

“He's possibly never done well in any position or tactical set up that different managers have had,” Carragher told talkSPORT.

“Would I pick him? No, I wouldn't. He's a huge name, huge transfer fee, but I don't think he's a great player.

“People say he's won the World Cup. I get that. But when he came back I thought he might be like Lampard at Chelsea, Gerrard at Liverpool, Yaya Toure at Man City – they drove their team to titles.

“When you're the man who's seen as the one to take United to the next level, people might say it's too much pressure, but that's what we were told was coming.

“It just hasn't happened. For me, I'd be looking to move him on.”

Manchester United acquired Donny van de Beek in the summer as an option in midfield but Pogba seems to be the Dutchman’s obstacle, having enjoyed limited game time so far.

He has played 10 games so far for the Red Devils in all competitions and has scored a goal, against Palace when he made his debut.

Manchester United are 14th on the League table with 10 points.

They welcome West Bromwich Albion after the International break before playing Southampton at the Saint Mary Stadium.
