Gerard Pique has been ruled out for two to three weeks after picking up an injury against Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey clash on Wednesday.

The club confirmed that the defender has suffered a sprain in a ligament of his knee and have not given the exact date for his return.

“The medical assessment and tests performed this morning have shown that first-team player Gerard Piqué has a sprain in the internal lateral ligament of his right knee,” the statement said.

“He is therefore unavailable and the evolution of the injury will determine when he returns.”

Pique was key in Barcelona’s dramatic comeback in a 3-2 aggregate against Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey as he scored a goal to level aggregates in stoppage time before Braithwaite took a chance in extra time to sail the Blaugranas through.

The Spaniard returned from injury after three months of being sidelined due to a ligament injury suffered against Atletico Madrid in November.

Pique has played a total of 15 games in which he has scored two goals.
