Troski Drivers and the Mindfulness of the Law towards their Lives As Citizens in Service

Troski Drivers and the Mindfulness of the Law towards their Lives As Citizens in Service
Troskis at Work in the Ashanti Region

The prologue story of Troskis in Ghana was weakening. Its invention in the capital of the Ashanti Region was threatening to passengers due to its size and door-less feature.

Much of the people paid no attention to been engaged in such for the reason that they were normally undermined by ‘trotro’ drivers on the road showing riders ‘no self-esteem’.

With traffic congestion sandwiched between cities in Kumasi, travelers found it discomforting to be stucked in traffic for hours, which slowed down their business dealings in the course of the day. Although the danger of plying through the middle of roads during traffic was, an exceptional reason why people avoided troski’s but its advantage could not be done without. Its size kept it in a better position to beat traffic congestion and convey passengers to their destinations without worry and on time.

The love of the people gradually grew into the three tyre-bikes especially at places where the rate of congestion was high.

Residents did not have to wait for conductors to load for passengers before setting their cars in motion. The mini car was always up and running whether there were passengers or not. People did not need to wait for cars rather, the cars waited and searched for them unlike the old driving language in Kumasi some months ago. Troski introduction dissolved queues, limited the amount of money to charter a car to one’s destination and made personal interaction with other passengers strong.

It provided employment for people, even the old who had no skill to make a living. One needed a few months of coaching to start his own business with the bike. People from the Zongo communities and guys usually seen at ‘wee’ base and a threat to civilains have attested to the fact that the introduction of troskis have transformed their lives from 'idle' to 'ideal'.

The fondness of people for the tricycle seems to be fading of late.

Research made by the Soiree News crew in the Kumasi Metropolis shows that people are gradually avoiding troskis for night ride home and for distant journey.

Although the benefits outways the disadvantages yet the interest of passengers have gone cold for them due to how robbers have taken advantage of the cycle to loot boarders. Strategies mapped by people who employ them at night is the growth of personal connection with the drivers. The personal attachment engrossed through familiarity has channeled confidentiality for a pick up anytime people are in need. Without the personal link, unknown troski drivers roam through the city at night but finds it difficult to be engaged.

The demerit involved has led to the establishment of stations at vantage points for the bikes. The location is designed for troski riders to have a common goal towards passengers and to send a message to the public on trust especially when people hire or board a troski depending on one’s destination.

In spite of their work, they have also paraded their challenges not towards passengers but against security personnel for sometimes going hard on them.

Soiree News absorbed certain concerns of the troski managers at the Adehyee Market down the Race Course road. The desperate boys employed in the trade confessed on how the job has transformed their lives from the ghettos yet they are under the grip of the Police taking monies from them for no reason.

“This is the only job we have as Ghanaians. Not everyone has been able to complete school with a lucrative job. We are not against the monies the Police take from us but we demand receipt from them as an evidence to the crime we have committed”

“A soldier disciplined one of our friends and destroyed his covering for wrongful parking. He then paid an additional money, which is really not helping us,” Lucifer Alhassan said.

Rauf sent a message of plea to the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to provide the tricycles a place as a stop over to load passengers. He revealed that they go through suffering in the hands of certain police officers and are sometimes asked to pay monies to be able to park at places rendered as ‘inappropriate’ for the security experts.

“They (Police) ask us to avoid parking at certain spots but when they arrive and you give them C50, they are okay and permits you to keep parking at where they see as not appropriate for loading passengers. We need the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly to provide us a place as a stop over and load passengers to avoid causing misunderstanding with the law”.

Mrs. Ampomah Gladys cautioned security personnel to have the laws of the state extended to check the troski drivers especially when they are conveying passengers on longer trips. She discussed with the news crew that most of the passengers have taken advantage of the work and hire them for their own foul means including rituals.

“These guys must be advised to avoid longer trips. They always fall in the hands of victims sometimes during the night. Some are killed and others are robbed. The laws should be employed to check them else we’ll lose o a lot of our good guys,” she advised.

The business is a boost to the transport line in Ghana therefore, certain laws should be designed to check and guide drivers of troskis well. The various Metropolis should strengthen and magnify it arms to preserve the odd and keep Ghanaian lives in service.
